Veteran comedy writer Marty Nadler, longtime Garry Marshall collaborator, dies at 80
Marty Nadler, a writer, producer and stand-up comic who worked with Garry Marshall for over four decades, died at 80 in Margate, Florida.
Marty Nadner, aged 80, died on Wednesday in Margate, Florida, due to complications from the autoimmune disorder myasthenia gravis, according to his son Charlie. Over a 40-year partnership with Garry Marshall, Nadler served as lead writer on sitcoms like Who’s Watching the Kids and Blansky’s Beauties, and supplied jokes for nine Marshall films, including Pretty Woman, Frankie and Johnny, Runaway Bride, The Princess Diaries 2, Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day, often receiving cameo roles.
His broader TV credits span shows such as That’s My Mama, Chico and the Man, Perfect Strangers, The Hogan Family and Amen. After retiring to South Florida, he executive-produced the 2022 movie iMordecai and, together with his son Charlie, recorded a comedy performance that will be released early next year by Comedy Dynamics. Survivors include his son Charlie, former wife Holly Mascott, and daughter-in-law Cary Kandel; Nadler will be interred on Martha’s Vineyard, with memorial events planned in several locations.
