Veteran Malaysian Rock Drummer Collapses and Dies During Festival Performance

Raja Azreen Raja Talib, the 56-year-old drummer for Meditasi, collapsed onstage at the Teruntum Rock Festival and was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

At Malaysia's Teruntum Rock Festival, Meditasi's drummer Raja Azreen Raja Talib collapsed after the group finished its second track, leaving frontman Bakaruddin Daud to find him unresponsive on the drums. Emergency services transported Talib to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital, but he died despite receiving respiratory assistance. The band’s vocalist described the scene as shocking, noting Talib appeared happy and showed no signs of illness before the show.

Talib's older brother confirmed the musician had been diagnosed with diabetes and had undergone two recent hospital stays for heart issues, one lasting two to three weeks. He suggested that the combination of recent BMX competition and the concert may have exhausted Talib's heart. Meditasi, originally formed as Metal Wizard in 1983 and popular in the 1990s, had reunited in 2015 and enjoys a sizable online following.
