Veteran Victorian MP Jacinta Allan Announces Exit from Politics

Jacinta Allan, the former premier of Victoria, confirmed she will not contest the November state election, effectively ending her tenure that began in 1999. Elected the day before her 26th birthday, she broke ground as the youngest woman ever to sit in Victoria's parliament and entered the ministry at age 29. She rose to the premiership in September 2023 when Daniel Andrews left politics, but relinquished the Labor leadership on July 27 after losing the confidence of her party colleagues.

Her deputy, Ben Carroll, took over as premier and publicly lauded her contributions to Bendigo and the broader Victorian community. Allan delivered her resignation from a press event in her central Victorian seat, signaling the conclusion of a 27-year political career.
