Viatris warns of flu-vaccine supply delays in Belgium through December

Viatris announced that deliveries of its standard flu vaccine for the 2026-2027 season to Belgium could be postponed until the end of December. The delay stems from the exceptional, simultaneous update of the three virus strains recommended by the OMS for the upcoming season and from shortages of essential raw materials needed for production and strain standardisation. The Federal Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AFMPS) has requested further details but remains confident that the overall vaccination campaign will not be compromised, noting that other suppliers such as Sanofi and GSK can compensate if needed.

Viatris confirmed it has already supplied a significant quantity of doses to hospitals and pharmacies across the country, prioritising rapid distribution to ensure patient access before the season starts. The company urges individuals seeking vaccination to consult their physician or pharmacist for current stock information. Despite the logistical hiccup, officials expect the national flu-vaccination targets to be met.
