Vice President Gibran Calls for Policy Review After Low Government Performance Scores
Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka said the poor ratings in a two-year review should lead the administration to rethink its policies and operations.
In a statement issued in Jakarta, Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka responded to a recent performance assessment by the Center of Economic and Law Studies (Celios). He said the low scores, which reflect public and expert dissatisfaction, should prompt the Prabowo-Gibran administration to revisit its policies and internal processes. Gibran emphasized that surveys and criticism are essential components of a healthy democracy and can guide improvements.
The Celios report, compiled with input from a Shadow Cabinet, surveyed 1,142 members of the public and 129 experts across Indonesia, revealing that 75% of respondents felt stressed by government policies, citing rising basic-goods prices, job scarcity, and law-enforcement issues. The administration received an overall rating of 4.6 from citizens and 2.8 from experts, while Gibran himself scored 4.9 and 2.2 respectively.
Why it matters
The low approval scores highlight public discontent, pressuring Indonesia's leadership to adjust policies affecting daily life.
