Vice President Sara Duterte’s SALN lists undisclosed company linked to Davao contracts

Investigators found a firm named in Vice President Sara Duterte’s asset statement that is absent from SEC records, sparking conflict-of-interest concerns during her impeachment.

Multimedia reporter Patrick Cruz uncovered that Gencorp Industries Inc., listed in Vice President Sara Duterte’s Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth, is missing from the Securities and Exchange Commission’s registration documents. The firm secured contracts exceeding P15 million from Davao City Hall during the tenure of her brother, Baste Duterte, as mayor, raising doubts about compliance with Article VII of the 1987 Constitution, which bars the vice president from business involvement.

SEC registration director Gerardo del Rosario suggested possible reasons for the discrepancy, but investigators note that JTC Group of Companies holds a 55 percent stake in Gencorp, with its president Jaime Tan Cruz—a close associate of the Duterte family—sharing initials with the firm’s name. The defense is likely to emphasize the absence of Sara Duterte’s name in SEC filings to refute conflict-of-interest claims, while Baste Duterte has said he was unaware of any sister’s stake in Gencorp. Further clarification is expected when Baste appears before the impeachment trial court.
