Video shows Shahjahanpur councillors swearing to split bribe money equally

A recording that has gone viral on social platforms features several Shahjahanpur Municipal Corporation councillors allegedly taking an oath to distribute bribe money equally among the 60 members. In the footage, a councillor holds a container of water, referred to as Gangajal, while a group repeats the pledge, even naming a "traitor" who would break the oath. Viewers on social media have labeled the participants as municipal councillors, but the authenticity of the video and the identities of those shown remain unconfirmed.

The clip also sparked speculation about a councillor’s rapid increase in assets, including multiple houses and luxury cars acquired since three years ago. Municipal Commissioner Saumya Gururani confirmed the video was recorded in November 2025 under a previous commissioner and announced an inquiry, adding that any necessary action will be taken after the findings are reviewed.
