Vietnam pushes ahead with Gia Binh airport construction to support APEC 2027

Vietnam's National Assembly adopted an investment policy for Gia Binh airport, earmarking private funding of roughly $7.5 billion to build a dual-use, ICAO Code 4F airfield that can accommodate the largest aircraft. The first phase focuses on clearing over 1,800 hectares, constructing two runways, a VIP terminal, and a 19-storey control tower, with the terminal expected to be ready in early 2027 for the APEC leaders' week held on Phu Quoc.

The runway and taxiway groundwork is progressing on fully cleared ground, and about 80% of the terminal’s steel columns are already erected. The airport will be digitally native, integrating AI and real-time data for operations. Masterise Group, via Masterise Aviation Infrastructure, is the main investor, targeting an "Airport Economic Hub 2.0" model that links aviation with logistics and commerce. Located 40 km north of Hanoi, the facility is projected to serve 30 million passengers and 1.6 million tonnes of cargo by 2030, expanding to 50 million passengers and 2.5 million tonnes by 2050, while relieving pressure on Noi Bai Airport.
