Vietnam says most of US trade pact talks are finished, signing imminent
Vietnam's government announced that negotiations on a reciprocal trade agreement with the United States are largely complete, with only a few technical issues remaining.
Vietnam confirmed that negotiations for a reciprocal trade agreement with the United States are essentially concluded after seven negotiation rounds that began in April 2025. A trade ministry spokesperson stated that the parties have "basically completed almost all negotiating contents" and are now focusing on a handful of remaining technical matters, working closely with the US Office of the Trade Representative. The country's trade surplus with the United States reached $122.62 billion in the first nine months of 2026, marking a 23.8% increase over the prior year, according to one outlet Statistics Office.
Vietnamese leader To Lam earlier praised the negotiations as constructive and suggested that a formal signing could occur soon. The finalization of the agreement is expected to further deepen economic ties between the two nations.
Why it matters
The near-completion of a US-Vietnam trade deal could boost bilateral commerce and influence regional supply chains.
