Vigiano brothers honored at Ground Zero wreath ceremony with city officials

A wreath-laying ceremony at Ground Zero, organized by the Detectives Endowment Association, paid tribute to NYPD Detective Joseph V. Vigiano and FDNY Firefighter John T. Vigiano, both of whom perished while entering the towers on September 11, 2001. Their family members reflected on the sense of community that helped them cope after the attacks, with Joseph Vigiano Jr., now an NYPD officer, touching his father’s and uncle’s names on the memorial.

The event also honored Detective Claude “Dan” Richards and the 79 detectives who have died from illnesses linked to the attacks. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch and Governor Kathy Hochul attended, while widow Kathy Vigiano watched her son Joseph Jr. in his NYPD uniform. The Vigiano legacy continues through Joseph Jr., his brother Jimmy, both NYPD officers, and John, who serves in the U.S. Marines.
