Vijay's coalition adopts the name Secular Social Justice Victory Alliance

Chief Minister Vijay presided over a gathering of his party TVK and allied groups at the party’s Panaiyur headquarters, where he unveiled the official title of the governing coalition - the Secular Social Justice Victory Alliance - and declared himself its president. The alliance brings together TVK’s 108 legislators, the Tamil Nadu Congress unit’s five MLAs, two Indian Union Muslim League members, two Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi representatives and external left support, and will face the imminent by-elections in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

Prominent participants included Congress president B Manickam Tagore, Rajya Sabha member Praveen Chakravarthy, and leaders from Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, VCK and IUML. The meeting occurred amid tensions, as Congress officials have threatened to resign from the state cabinet unless the alliance backs Rahul Gandhi as the party’s prime-ministerial candidate for the 2029 general election. Left parties CPI(M) and CPI skipped the session, while the coalition seeks to keep communal forces out of government.
