Village cooperatives set for soft launch in October pending presidential approval
The Ministry of Cooperatives says village cooperatives will begin operations in October once the presidential regulation is signed.
At the 2nd National Conference on Smallholder Plantations in Jakarta, Minister Ferry explained that the soft launch of Red and White Village Cooperatives depends on the signing of a presidential regulation by President Prabowo Subianto. Facilities for about 23,000 cooperatives are finished, but roughly 17,000 are still undergoing verification before they can be handed over to villages. Managers who have completed training have been issued appointment letters detailing salaries and allowances, and will be assigned to cooperatives with fully equipped warehouses and outlets.
Data from PT Agrinas Pangan Nusantara confirm that 17,288 cooperatives have complete physical infrastructure and are awaiting final review. Once verification and handover are complete, operations are expected to start in October. The cooperatives aim to serve as local hubs for economic and social services, including distribution of subsidized goods.
