Vilnius hosts record-size international corgi competition with 150 participants
The fifth Corgi Race in Vilnius attracted 150 dogs from nine nations, featuring races, costume parades and specialty contests.
Vilnius’ Vingis park became the stage for the fifth edition of the Corgi Race, drawing 150 small herding dogs from nine different countries. The competition featured a sprint over 25 metres, where American competitor GG claimed victory, followed closely by fellow U.S. entrant Mr. Corgington, while Lithuania’s two-time champion Moka placed third. Beyond speed, owners showcased their pets in a costume parade, a treat-finding "smartest nose" trial won jointly by Latvia’s Tora and Rusty, and a loudest-bark showdown that saw Mr. Corgington triumph.
British newcomer Duke, a 12-year-old Pembroke, entered the barking contest despite being too old for the race. Organizer Edvinas Miskas highlighted the event’s expansion from a single-city gathering of 40 dogs to an international showcase that now includes a participant from Wales, the breed’s original home.
Why it matters
The event highlights growing cross-border cultural interest in niche pet competitions and boosts tourism for Vilnius.
