Vincent Pastore's enduring impact on TV and pop culture remembered

Vincent Pastore, a Bronx native born on July 14, 1946, served in the U.S. Navy before working as a bouncer, limousine driver and nightclub owner, where he met future actors who urged him toward acting. After modest film roles in Goodfellas (1990) and Carlito’s Way (1993), he earned larger parts in The Jerky Boys: The Movie (1995) and the HBO film Gotti (1996). His most iconic role came as Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero on The Sopranos, a performance that blended loyalty, menace and vulnerability, culminating in a memorable boat execution scene and a surreal talking-fish dream sequence.

Pastore later voiced an octopus in Shark Tale, performed on Broadway in Chicago and Bullets Over Broadway, and hosted The Wiseguy Show on SiriusXM. He also pursued music, launched a tomato sauce brand, taught acting, and appeared on reality programs, embracing typecasting with humor and generosity toward fans.
