VinMetal partners with Italy's Danieli to build rail steel line in Ha Tinh
VinMetal has signed a contract with Danieli to supply the main equipment for a new heavy-rail and structural-steel rolling line at its Ha Tinh complex.
Vietnamese steelmaker VinMetal, the metallurgical division of Vingroup, entered into a deal with Italy's Danieli & C. Officine Meccaniche to provide the primary equipment for a heavy-rail and structural-steel rolling line at its Ha Tinh Iron and Steel Complex. Signed on October 15, the contract covers the design, construction, delivery and commissioning of the line's core machinery, targeting an annual output of 700,000 tonnes.
VinMetal plans to sell the steel to national projects such as high-speed rail, urban transit, bridges, ports and logistics centres. The company highlighted that the collaboration will foster domestic specialty-steel production, lower import dependence and enhance Vietnam's position in supply chains. The move follows a prior June agreement with Primetals Technologies for broader steelmaking and rolling technology at the same site. VinMetal expects technology transfer from international partners to improve the competitiveness of Vietnam's steel industry.
Why it matters
The deal strengthens Vietnam's ability to produce rail steel domestically, supporting major infrastructure projects and reducing import reliance.
