Violent attack at Edmonton Sikh temple injures two, suspect arrested
A violent incident at the Nanaksar Gurdwara in northeast Edmonton left two adult males with non-life-threatening injuries, and police arrested a suspect on site.
The World Sikh Organization of Canada said a “violent incident” occurred early Friday at the Nanaksar Gurdwara temple in northeast Edmonton, where an intruder entered and assaulted individuals, injuring two adult males with non-life-threatening wounds. Edmonton police received a report of a stabbing at the temple near 14 Street and Horsehill Rd. at 5:08 a.m., dispatched Northeast Branch Patrol officers who found and arrested an adult male suspect on the scene.
Emergency services treated the two victims at the location, and the temple has been closed to the public pending investigation. Police remain at the scene, and officials are expected to hold a news conference later that day. The incident also reportedly involved an attack on the Sikh scripture Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. The investigation is ongoing.
