Violent clash erupts between ABVP and left student groups at Jadavpur University

A fight broke out between ABVP members and left-leaning student organisations on Jadavpur University campus, leaving several students injured.

Tensions escalated on Jadavpur University in Kolkata when members of the RSS-affiliated ABVP clashed with left-leaning student bodies, including the SFI and DSO-DSF, following a Faculty of Engineering and Technology Students' Union meeting. Both factions blamed the other for introducing non-students onto the campus, and video footage showed slogans being shouted as groups tried to enter locked university buildings. Fires were allegedly ignited at several locations, prompting authorities to lock the administrative block, Aurobindo Bhavan.

Several participants sustained injuries and were transported to a hospital for treatment. ABVP spokesperson Shubhabrata Adhikari claimed outsiders were involved and said FIRs would be filed, while the SFI’s Subhajit Sarkar announced a protest rally at the 8B bus stand. The incident highlights growing campus unrest and competing claims of vandalism and infiltration.
