Violent clash erupts in Thanjavur as VCK protest meets police intervention

A VCK demonstration in Thanjavur turned chaotic when a police officer struck a passing motorcyclist, who then slapped the officer.

Members of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi set up a road blockade near the Thanjavur municipal building after civic officials took down the party’s digital banners. The obstruction caused heavy traffic on Gandhi Road. A 26-year-old motorcyclist named Aakash attempted to pass, honked, and was told by Special Sub-Inspector Raheem to wait until the protest ended.

The officer struck Aakash, leading the rider to slap the officer’s cheek, after which police intervened and arrested him. The district police later denied claims of excessive force, stating that minimal force was used to prevent a larger law-and-order issue.
