Violent clashes erupt in French student protests, several injuries reported

Student demonstrations across France have intensified, with video footage showing severe confrontations between protesters and police and multiple injuries, including a pupil who lost an eye.

Student-led demonstrations throughout France have grown more violent, leading to mass arrests by police. Social-media videos capture extreme scenes, with aggression reported from both protesters and law-enforcement officers. A notable injury involved a student who lost his right eye after being struck by a plastic pellet, while a police officer was attacked following an alleged incident of holding a student's head under water.

In Marseille, a 15-year-old was detained after brandishing a flamethrower against a woman trying to stop him from damaging a tram stop, and in southern France a teacher was targeted with gasoline and an attempted arson. Police actions have also drawn criticism, with footage showing some officers throwing stones and breaking shop windows. The unrest continues, with calls for further large-scale mobilisations involving students, teachers and public employees.
