Virgin Media to Shut Down Email Service, Migrates Users to Junara
Virgin Media will close its email platform and move management to Junara, giving customers 45 days to transfer data or switch providers.
Virgin Media, the United Kingdom’s second-largest broadband operator, is ending its email offering and will transfer the service to Junara, a cloud-based email provider owned by Atmail. Customers with any Virgin Media-branded email address will receive direct communication outlining three options: sign up with Junara (subject to a migration fee but with the first year free), export their messages and move to another provider, or simply close the account.
The transition period is limited to 45 days. The move follows a 2022 decision to stop issuing new email addresses, reflecting the shift toward mainstream services like Gmail and Outlook. Alan Stott, chief operating officer of Virgin Media O2, said the company wants to concentrate resources on delivering broadband, mobile, landline and TV services. Approximately 5.4 million fixed-line broadband customers will be impacted by the change.
