Virginia family urges more international aid after relatives vanish in Nepal-China floods
A Virginia family whose father, sister, brother-in-law and his mother went missing in the Nepal-China flash floods is pleading for additional rescue assistance.
Since the catastrophic flash floods along the Nepal-China border, Mukti Patel has been gathered with family and friends at her parents' home in Richmond, Virginia, awaiting news of her missing relatives. Her father Umesh Kumar, sister Akanksha, brother-in-law Ishan and his mother Shilpa were traveling with a Himalayan Glacier Adventure tour that organized a two-week trek for 40 guests and seven guides, all of whom are now unaccounted for.
The disaster has left more than 2,000 people missing, including about 90 Americans, according to the U.S. State Department. Sanket Pandey, managing director of the tour company, said families are desperate for any information about possible survivors. Patel is urging additional nations to contribute to the ongoing rescue and recovery operations, hoping her family will be found alive.
