Volcanic ash from Anak Krakatau forces closure of several Indonesian airports and prompts airline refund instructions

The eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau has produced an ash cloud that led authorities to suspend operations at Soekarno‑Hatta, Halim Perdanakusuma, Radin Inten II, Husein Sastranegara, Budiarto, Pondok Cabe, Taufik Kiemas and Atung Bungsu airports. The transport ministry instructed airlines to provide refunds for flights cancelled because of the ash disruption and to keep passengers informed of schedule changes. Diversion options were offered to airports such as Kertajati, Semarang, Juanda, Yogyakarta and Solo, while bus, Whoosh and additional train services were arranged to connect travelers to Jakarta and other cities. Officials emphasized safety as the priority and urged the public to avoid the affected zones.
