Volkswagen and Audi issue recall over steering-screw defect affecting millions of cars
Volkswagen and Audi are recalling several models because a small steering-screw may break, risking loss of steering control. The recall covers roughly one million vehicles in Germany and millions worldwide.
Germany's Federal Motor Transport Authority has identified a defect in a steering-assembly screw that could break and cause steering failure on a range of Volkswagen and Audi vehicles. The issue spans VW models such as the Tiguan, Touran, Golf Variant, Caddy and Golf produced from late September 2013 to early July 2024, as well as the Audi Q3 built between October 2017 and May 2024. Approximately one million cars registered in Germany are subject to the recall, and the problem extends to roughly two million vehicles globally for the VW models and about seven hundred thousand for the Audi Q3.
Owners will be instructed to replace the original screw with a corrosion-resistant alternative to restore safety. The recall follows earlier reporting by a German news portal and has been.
