Volkswagen and China's Gotion launch three joint battery ventures in Europe and Morocco

Volkswagen and Chinese battery maker Gotion have agreed to set up three joint ventures to manufacture battery cells and cathode material. The partnerships will be based in Valencia, Spain, in Slovakia, and in Morocco, with the Spanish location intended to serve as a European hub for uniform battery cells. Volkswagen's battery-cell subsidiary Powerco will collaborate with Gotion on all three projects.

The companies highlighted the Valencia centre as a major step forward for European EV battery supply. The announcement was made on Monday, underscoring the growing cooperation between European carmakers and Chinese battery firms.
