Volkswagen rebrands its next electric SUV as the ID. Tiguan
Volkswagen is replacing the ID.4 with a new model called the ID. Tiguan, slated for a 2027 launch and built on the popular Tiguan name.
Volkswagen will discontinue the ID.4 and launch the ID. Tiguan, using the established Tiguan name to attract buyers familiar with the brand. Prototype drives near Vienna report a smoother, quieter cabin and a more refined suspension, while the vehicle’s exterior remains largely unchanged.
The new SUV will be available with either a 58 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery delivering roughly 280 mi or a 77 kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt pack reaching up to 373 mi, and both retain the same peak charging rates as the ID.4. Power outputs range from 188 bhp to 295 bhp for the dual-motor version, with a towing capacity of about 2,000 kg. Pricing is expected to sit close to one outlet ID.4 price of £36,995, which could affect eligibility for the UK electric-car grant. The model will be built at VW’s Emden plant in Germany and go on sale in 2027, with UK specifications to follow.
Why it matters
The rebranding could boost VW's electric SUV sales by leveraging a trusted name and improved comfort.
