Volkswagen unveils cloaked electric ID. Tiguan prototype for early road testing

Volkswagen arranged a brief road test of an undercover electric ID. Tiguan prototype on Austrian streets, giving the press a first look at the upcoming model. The car’s exterior is shrouded in a neutral film, a common practice before official unveilings, and its silhouette suggests a size similar to the ID. 4.

Design work was led by 45-year-veteran Hungarian designer Juhász Tibor, who operates under VW Group Design chief Andreas Mindt. Visible features include a wide light strip on the front grille, distinctive wheel arches, and a 21-inch alloy wheel with 235-mm tires. Inside, the prototype shows a large central touchscreen, soft-touch window-lift switches, and a steering-wheel button layout reminiscent of older models.

The test covered driving modes such as Eco, Comfort, Sport and Individual, and demonstrated strong regenerative braking in B-mode. Many interior panels and power-train specifics remained hidden pending the formal reveal.
