Volkswagen unveils the 322-bhp electric ID.3 GTI, its most powerful GTI yet

Volkswagen announced the ID.3 GTI, an electric hot hatch delivering 322 bhp and rear-wheel drive, making it the brand’s most powerful GTI model.

Volkswagen introduced the ID.3 GTI, the first rear-wheel-drive model to wear the GTI badge and the most powerful ever at 322 bhp. Built on the ID.3 platform, it uses a 79 kWh battery that supports up to 183 kW fast charging, filling from 10 % to 80 % in just under thirty minutes. Performance figures include a 0-62 mph sprint in 5.6 seconds, marginally quicker than the standard Golf GTI.

A new GTI driving mode activates launch control, stiffens the suspension, and adds a synthetic combustion-engine soundtrack. Interior touches echo classic GTI styling, such as tartan upholstery and a retro-style digital dial display. The model will launch in Germany first, with UK deliveries slated for early 2027 and a price expected near £45,000.

Why it matters

It shows Volkswagen’s shift of iconic performance models to fully electric powertrains.
