Volt uses vulgar poster to demand voting rights for EU residents in Berlin

In the run-up to Berlin’s state and local elections, Volt unveiled a stark poster asking “Who the f*ck ever asked you?” to spotlight the limited franchise in the capital. Under current rules, only German citizens aged 16 and over may vote for the Berlin House of Representatives, and EU citizens can only participate in district council elections. Volt contends that this leaves many long-term residents without a voice in major city decisions and is campaigning for full voting rights for EU nationals.

Candidate Matt Bristow, who devised the campaign, described the situation as a “democratic deficit” affecting hundreds of thousands of EU residents. He linked the demand to recent far-right gains in other German states, arguing that greater participation could counter such trends. The party hopes the provocative messaging will spark debate and translate into votes for Volt on election day.
