Volvo adds real-time hazard warnings to its newest electric models

Volvo announced that its latest electric vehicles - the EX90, ES90 and EX60 - will receive a new suite of connected safety alerts. Using sensors and cameras, each car can spot large animals, vulnerable road users, construction zones or collisions, then record the exact spot and transmit the data to Volvo’s servers. The cloud platform then pushes the warning to any Volvo traveling the same route, provided the vehicle is online and the road appears in the map database.

The company says roughly 1 million of its cars already support this technology and that the data is also shared with traffic management agencies and other manufacturers. Volvo’s alert system, built with Ericsson, has been in use since 2016 for slippery-road warnings and hazard-light notifications. The update also includes Spatial Audio support for Apple CarPlay in the EX90.
