Voter poll shows strong opposition to giving Israeli firms special Pentagon access

A Data for Progress poll of 1,217 likely voters finds 61% reject Section 219 of the NDAA, which would let Israeli military companies access U.S. defense systems.

Data for Progress surveyed 1,217 likely U.S. voters between Aug. 3 and Aug. 7, finding that 61% oppose Section 219 of the National Defense Authorization Act, which would grant Israeli military companies privileged access to Pentagon systems, technology and supply chains. Demand Progress senior policy advisor Cavan Kharrazian called the poll a "flashing red warning sign" for any congressperson backing the provision, urging lawmakers to heed public sentiment.

IMEU Policy Project executive director Margaret DeReus labeled the proposal "ridiculous" and urged senators to discard it. The House approved the NDAA in July, but the Senate has yet to vote. Opponents contend the measure further entangles the United States in Israel’s conflict and diverts taxpayer funds to foreign weapons firms, while supporters have not offered a counter-argument in the article.

Why it matters

Public opposition could influence Senate voting on a bill that would tie U.S. defense resources to foreign military firms.
