Vox calls for border closures and deportations to ease Spain's housing crunch
Vox leader Santiago Abascal and housing spokesperson Carlos Quero blamed mass immigration for Spain's housing shortage and urged stricter border controls and deportations.
Vox positioned immigration as a primary factor behind Spain's housing crisis, claiming that yearly arrivals of over a million foreigners outpace the construction of new homes. Party leader Santiago Abascal and housing spokesman Carlos Quero denounced the government's open-border stance, saying it blocks young Spaniards from affordable rentals. Quero attacked two housing decrees approved by the Consejo de Ministros, calling them destructive to supply and harmful to vulnerable citizens.
He also mocked the Casa 47 portal for listing only 800 properties, likening the figure to a handful of aircraft landing. The party urged closing borders, deporting migrants, and accelerating land release and building permits, while also calling for the removal of those living on welfare or perceived as culturally incompatible. Vox linked these measures to the recent eviction of 87-year-old Maricarmen, blaming the PSOE, Podemos and Sumar for the situation.
