VSMC launches $7.8 billion semiconductor fab in Singapore to serve physical AI market

VisionPower Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, a partnership of Vanguard International Semiconductor and NXP Semiconductors, inaugurated its 300 mm wafer fabrication plant in Singapore's Tampines district on September 28. The fab will support 130-nm to 40-nm mixed-signal, power-management, analogue and interposer technologies, serving high-performance computing, mobile, automotive, industrial and consumer markets. After completing construction, the plant moved into risk production, with volume manufacturing slated for the first quarter of 2027 and a target output of roughly 44,000 wafers per month by 2029.

Company leaders emphasized the importance of specialty chips for physical AI, where intelligence operates directly in vehicles, robots and infrastructure. Singaporean officials noted the strategic fit of the facility within the country's established semiconductor ecosystem and its potential to generate about 1,600 jobs, many in professional and technical roles.
