Vučić says Putin’s nuclear warnings are genuine, not deceptive

Former Serbian president Aleksandar Vučić warned Western leaders that Vladimir Putin’s statements about using nuclear weapons are truthful and would be acted upon if Russia is attacked.

Aleksandar Vučić, who stepped down as Serbia’s president, said in a recent interview that Vladimir Putin’s remarks on nuclear weapon use are accurate and should not be dismissed as falsehoods. He warned that any direct aggression from the United States, European nations or the United Kingdom would compel Russia to respond with nuclear force. Vučić highlighted Russia’s 2024 nuclear doctrine, which reduces the conditions for nuclear retaliation and extends the deterrence umbrella to Belarus, where tactical nuclear weapons have been deployed.

He argued that believing NATO’s superiority will prevent a nuclear strike is a grave error in judgment. Vučić, a close ally of Moscow who also seeks EU membership for Serbia, emphasized the seriousness of the threat to Western policymakers.

Why it matters

The warning underscores heightened nuclear risk if NATO engages Russia, affecting global security calculations.
