VW warns EU 'Made in EU' rule could hit Turkish Transporter output

During the IAA Transportation 2026 exhibition in Hannover, Germany, Stefan Mecha, chairman of the board of management of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, cautioned that the European Union's draft Industrial Acceleration Act, which favours "Made in EU" products, could disrupt the company's van manufacturing in Türkiye. The Transporter model, which accounts for roughly 30% of VW's commercial vehicle sales, might face new restrictions if the rule is adopted.

Mecha highlighted that both Volkswagen and Ford are keen to deliver vehicles to European markets cost-effectively, and the proposed legislation would challenge that goal. He added that the EU will decide whether countries like Türkiye are treated as part of Europe for manufacturing purposes. VW is currently voicing its concerns to EU authorities and monitoring the bill's progress.
