WA launches $1 million free in-home nursing for vulnerable seniors
Nurse Next Door will deliver $1 million of complimentary at-home care to older Western Australians who lack basic support, under the Making Lives Better Million initiative.
A new initiative called Making Lives Better Million is allocating $1 million to offer free at-home nursing and caregiving to vulnerable older adults in Western Australia. Nurse Next Door, the provider delivering the service, highlighted that many seniors are missing essential daily care such as showers, meal preparation, and medication oversight because they lack the financial means or government approval for support. Keir Williams, managing director for the South East region, explained that the program aims to fill a substantial market gap and prevent the system from failing these individuals.
The funding will act as short-term relief while recipients wait for government-funded care to be processed or for a spot in a residential facility to become available. Eligible people living in areas covered by Nurse Next Door can submit applications now. The effort seeks to improve quality of life for seniors who have otherwise fallen through the cracks of the aged-care system.
Why it matters
It provides critical care to seniors lacking basic support, easing pressure on the aged-care system.
