Walgreens launches new technology and business services hub in Chennai
Walgreens India Private Ltd signed an MoU with Tamil Nadu to open a Global Capability Centre in Chennai, targeting tech and business services and creating over 250 jobs in its first year.
In a move to deepen its Global Capability Centre ecosystem, Tamil Nadu signed a memorandum of understanding with Walgreens India Private Ltd, witnessed by C Joseph Vijay. The new centre will be situated in DLF Downtown, Tharamani, within Chennai's growing GCC cluster. Its primary focus will be on technology and business services, and it is projected to generate over 250 jobs during the first year of operation.
The agreement follows the state's recent launch of the Tamil Nadu Global Capability Centres Corridor and Development Programme, which seeks to foster next-generation GCCs across key employment zones. Walgreens aims to build critical digital and operational capabilities from Chennai to support its broader enterprise functions, while the state anticipates strengthening its technology and healthcare sectors. The partnership is part of a larger strategy to position Chennai as a premier destination for high-value global capability centres.
