Wallabies debut new front row and captain Alaalatoa for Argentina test
Australia's Wallabies will start a fresh front row with Allan Alaalatoa as captain, while keeping the backline that beat Japan, for the first test against Argentina.
For the opening test against Argentina, the Wallabies will field an entirely new starting front row, with Allan Alaalatoa taking over captaincy, Isaac Kailea making his first start in two years at loosehead prop, and Brandon Paenga-Amosa at hooker. Les Kiss has left the backline unchanged from the Townsville win over Japan, and Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii will be available off the bench after injury. Rob Valetini replaces Harry Wilson at number eight, Tom Hooper starts at blindside flanker, and Fraser McReight returns to the openside.
Argentina will repeat the lineup that fell to South Africa, though captain Julián Montoya and several key players are unavailable. The two-test series kicks off Sunday morning AEST, with one outlet Sport providing a live blog.
Why it matters
The selections show Australia's strategy ahead of hosting the next World Cup and shape the competitive balance with Argentina.
