Walmart recalls Great Value fruit cocktail cans over possible lead contamination

Walmart is pulling Great Value Fruit Cocktail cans after the manufacturer warned that the lot may contain elevated lead levels.

The manufacturer Pacific Coast Producers announced a recall of its Great Value Fruit Cocktail in Fruit Juice from Concentrate on October 1, and the FDA later designated the action as a Class II recall on October 20. The recall covers 15-ounce cans bearing lot code 6FCB 04 C2263 and UPC 078742369570, with a best-if-used-by date of September 1 2027, amounting to roughly 44,064 individual cans. Shoppers are urged to examine their pantry for these identifiers and avoid consuming any matching product.

Affected cans should be disposed of or returned to Walmart for a possible refund. The FDA advises anyone worried about lead exposure to seek medical advice, noting that lead can cause serious health issues, especially for children and pregnant women. The recall does not extend to other Walmart canned fruit products or different production lots.

Why it matters

Lead exposure can cause serious health problems, so consumers need to identify and remove potentially contaminated cans.
