Walmart reports double-digit e-commerce growth and raises full-year outlook

Walmart said its online sales jumped 23% worldwide in the second quarter, with U.S. growth of 24%, and lifted its fiscal-year guidance.

Walmart’s second-quarter results highlighted a 23% increase in global e-commerce sales, led by store-fulfilled pickup and delivery and growth in its online marketplace. The U.S. segment posted a 24% rise, with strong performance in delivery services, advertising and marketplace transactions. Sam’s Club U.S., a Walmart-owned division, recorded a 26% jump in online sales, primarily from club-fulfilled pickup and delivery.

International operations contributed a 19% e-commerce increase, also driven by store-fulfilled options. Total revenue climbed to $187.9 billion, up 5.9% from the prior year, and the company raised its fiscal-year guidance. CEO John Furner credited the gains to Walmart’s focus on price, speed and convenience, while CFO John David Rainey said the business model is becoming more resilient.
