On September 1, Walmart released a limited-edition "Chicken Purse" priced at $5.97, mirroring the look of its rotisserie chicken cartons and available in traditional and lemon pepper styles. The bag is constructed from synthetic leather, features a polyester lining, and includes a shoulder strap. In a pre-launch announcement, the company said the item celebrates the strong social media following of its rotisserie chicken.
The initial inventory sold out within a few hours, prompting shoppers to turn to the Mercari marketplace where the purse now commands about $48. Walmart's statement noted that roughly one in twelve customers purchase a rotisserie chicken each year, underscoring the product’s cultural relevance. The retailer also released matching miniature charms and suggested that additional versions may be released in the future.
