Walmart, Target and Amazon launch competing discount events ahead of holidays

Walmart, Target and Amazon have announced separate sales weeks starting in early October, each offering deep discounts across multiple categories.

Retail giants Walmart, Target and Amazon are set to battle for shoppers’ attention with overlapping discount events in early October. Walmart’s week-long sale starts at midnight on October 5 and runs through October 11, promising half-price reductions on home items, up to 40% off fashion and technology, and up to 30% off toys. Target’s annual Circle Deal Days open on October 6 for standard members, while paid Circle 360 members receive a full day of early access on October 5, with discounts of up to 40% on apparel, home décor, kitchen gadgets, beauty products and toys, plus a suite of loyalty incentives for new members.

Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days are scheduled for October 6-7, beginning at 12:01 a.m. PDT, and will feature Prime-only savings of up to 45% on fall clothing, 35% on bedding and décor, and Halloween costumes starting at $5. All three retailers are using loyalty programs and limited-time offers to attract early holiday shoppers.

Why it matters

The overlapping sales could shape consumer spending patterns and set price expectations for the holiday shopping season.
