Washington Democrat launches nicotine-themed merch ahead of tight House race
Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez introduced a Zyn-style campaign tin as she gears up for a competitive November election.
Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, a Democrat from Washington, unveiled a campaign souvenir that mimics the Zyn nicotine pouch, pricing it at $50 and offering it through her office’s website. The novelty item, dubbed "Glue-zyn-kamp," sparked rapid attention online as she prepares for a November showdown in one of the nation’s most contested House districts, a seat Trump carried in the last presidential election. Since winning in 2022, she has cultivated a working-class image and often diverges from her party, most recently joining Republicans to force a vote condemning socialism and the Democratic Socialists of America.
That move prompted rebuke from fellow Democrats, including Hakeem Jeffries, who is considering disciplinary action. Her Republican opponent is John Braun, the minority leader of the Washington state Senate, and House Speaker Mike Johnson visited the district during the August recess to support Braun’s campaign.
Why it matters
The merch highlights how a vulnerable incumbent is using unconventional tactics to energize voters in a swing district.
