Washtenaw County Sheriff Alyshia Dyer Ends All ICE Collaboration
Sheriff Alyshia Dyer announced that her office has stopped providing any resources to Immigration and Customs Enforcement since taking office nearly two years ago.
Alyshia Dyer, the elected sheriff of Washtenaw County in Ann Arbor, Michigan, declared that her department no longer assists Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The policy, implemented shortly after she took office about two years ago, bars the use of county resources for ICE operations. Dyer explained that the move fulfills her oath to the Michigan Constitution and her commitments to local voters, emphasizing that she is not obligated to fund federal immigration enforcement.
She received a letter from ICE accusing her of obstruction, which she described as unsettling. Although ICE remains free to conduct its own investigations, the sheriff's office will not provide any logistical support.
