Water supply threatens to collapse in 21 Loire Forez municipalities

According to a map issued on Friday, the Loire Forez agglomeration’s water authority indicates that 21 of its 79 member municipalities are on the brink of a water supply failure, as usage has exceeded available output. An additional 62% of the towns are rated at an alarming alert stage, prompting expectations of reduced pressure, occasional turbidity, and possible water interruptions. Mayors of the affected areas have already used social media to advise citizens on water-saving practices.

Emergency actions include the purchase of a tank to refill dry reservoirs several times a week, ongoing drilling of interconnection projects, and the forthcoming deployment of a mobile water-treatment station. The situation, described as “particularly complicated” by the agglomeration president Christophe Bazile earlier in September, could worsen with any major pipe rupture.
