Waymo targets Munich for its first EU robotaxi service by 2027

Waymo announced that it will introduce a fully autonomous robotaxi service in Munich, targeting the end of 2027 for commercial operations, which would be its first offering inside the European Union. In the next few weeks the company will begin deploying vehicles equipped with safety drivers to conduct street-mapping and testing activities. Officials at municipal, state and national levels are being consulted to secure the required operating permits.

The Munich launch follows the creation of Waymo subsidiaries across several European nations this summer, including France, Spain, the Netherlands and a newly registered entity in Switzerland. Additionally, the firm plans to start offering rides to passengers in London as soon as next month. These moves signal Waymo’s rapid expansion beyond the United States into key European markets.
