Wealth disclosures reveal stark differences among Romania's Niculescu cabinet ministers
Asset declarations filed in 2025 by three members of Luca Niculescu’s cabinet show an independent energy minister with multiple properties and sizable foreign-currency accounts, a Social-Democrat defence minister with modest real estate but €40,000 of jewellery, and a finance minister listing inherited land and modest bank balances.
The 2025 wealth statements of three ministers in the Luca Niculescu cabinet expose contrasting asset profiles. Independent Energy Minister Dumitru Chisăliță disclosed two Sibiu apartments, a Bucharest property, two land parcels in Alba and Sibiu registered to his wife Simona Maria Chisăliță, five euro accounts totalling €345,904 and four dollar accounts with $362,039, as well as an automobile valued at €45,000. Defence Minister Radu Oprea reported a 440 m² intravilan land in Prahova, a 105.17 m² house, a 47.62 m² apartment in Ploiești, jewellery worth €40,000 acquired between 1994 and 2011, a personal loan of 2,943,305 RON to City Imobiliar SRL and a €189,216 UniCredit loan, plus an annual income of 150,118 lei from his previous ministerial role. Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare listed inherited parcels of 1,250 m² in Brăila, 15,000 m² agricultural land and 2,500 m² extravilan land in Vrancea, a half-share of a two-meter-square Ilfov building acquired in 2022, bank balances over €146,000 and 65,000 lei, a 2023 senator salary of 131,412 lei and the sale of a car for 113,600 lei.
