Weekend gunfire in Chicago leaves multiple injured and two dead
A series of shootings over the weekend in Chicago resulted in two fatalities and numerous injuries.
Chicago experienced two distinct shooting sprees on Saturday night, one near East 37th Street and Michigan Avenue in Bronzeville and another in the 5400 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue in Washington Park. The first incident claimed the life of a 32-year-old man who was among three people targeted. Minutes later, gunfire erupted in a crowded area of Washington Park, killing a 35-year-old man and injuring a large number of bystanders.
Officials have not determined if more than one gunman participated in either event. The city's homicide database records over 281 killings this year, highlighting ongoing violence despite extensive local gun-control measures such as assault-weapon bans, magazine limits, waiting periods, and licensing requirements.
Why it matters
