Welfare Department upgrades evacuation centres for disabled ahead of monsoon season

In preparation for the upcoming monsoon, the Welfare Department is retrofitting temporary evacuation centres (PPS) to better serve persons with disabilities. Datuk Che Murad Sayang Ramjan said the upgrades include separate spaces, sign-language interpreters for the hearing impaired, and identified zones for the visually impaired and bedridden individuals. He outlined supply depots stocked for three to four days before external aid arrives, and mentioned that more than 9,000 PPS locations have been catalogued, though not all will be activated simultaneously.

Coordination with the National Disaster Management Agency and monitoring of forecasts from the Malaysian Meteorological Department were also emphasized. Volunteers of 6,000 receive regular training, and the public is encouraged to use the MyBIJKM app to register households with disabled or senior members for faster assistance.
