West Bengal to host DRDO's third major missile testing range in Junput
India's defence research agency will establish a new missile testing facility in the coastal village of Junput, Purba Medinipur, marking its third major range after Chandipur.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) plans to set up a weapon and missile testing site on the Purba Medinipur coast at Junput. The project, previously stalled due to lack of land allocation by the former state government, received approval from West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. He said the range will boost regional development and complement the existing integrated range in Chandipur, Odisha. A DRDO source confirmed the initiative is moving forward.
Why it matters
The new range expands India's defence testing infrastructure and promises economic benefits for West Bengal.
