West Bengal to unveil new industrial policy ahead of Durga Puja celebrations

At a government event in Kolkata where land was allotted to 33 new enterprises, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said West Bengal will roll out a new industrial policy before the Durga Puja festival begins on October 10. A Group of Ministers headed by industry minister Tapas Roy has submitted a draft to the state chief secretary, and the policy will cover incentives, land-pooling, and a single-window clearance system for projects over ₹100 crore, eliminating the need to approach local bodies for permits.

Adhikari announced a budget of ₹5,000 crore for incentives linked to employment generation and promised to meet industrialists at least twice a month. He blamed the former Left Front and Trinamool Congress governments for shutting more than 54,000 industrial units and for the Tata-Singur controversy. The upcoming policy is positioned as a corrective measure to revive the state's economy, which he described as "insolvent-like".
